Tourist attractions turned off the lights for one hour to raise awareness for climate change

Millions around the world celebrated Earth Hour with iconic landmarks going dark.

In a moment of global unity to celebrate the planet, Italy’s ancient Roman Colosseum and Australia’s Opera House and Harbour Bridge plunged into darkness.

Tourist attractions and houses from more than 190 countries coordinate to turn off their lights for just one hour.

First launched in Sydney, the campaign aims to raise awareness for climate change.

The World Wildlife Fund describes Earth Hour as the “largest global grassroots movement for the environment.”
