House of Representatives votes in favour of Capitol Riots Commission. But what’s next?

Just moments ago the U-S House of Representatives passed a bill to establish a commission into the January 6 attack on the Capitol building.

With only 35 Republicans voicing their support, lawmakers passed the bill with a 252-to-175 vote.

However, the bill still needs to pass through the Senate before it becomes law, and there are concerns that it may not receive the necessary support.

This follows both Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell and House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy staunchly opposing the bill.

McCarthy says the proposed legislation “ignores the political violence that has struck American cities and a deadly attack on Capitol Police on April 2, 20-21″.

If passed, the legislation will create a commission designed to examine “the facts and circumstances of the January 6th attack on the Capitol”.

Commission members will also look at influencing factors that may have provoked the attack on “America’s democracy.”
