Australia launches new cybersecurity agency to boost defences against hackers

Another day, another cyber attack.

Australia’s Latitude Financial is the victim of a hacking incident, warning the ID documents of 328,000 customers have been stolen.

The data breach includes the drivers licence details of about 100,000 customers.

Latitude provides consumer finance services to Harvey Norman, JB Hi-Fi, The Good Guys, Apple and retailer David Jones.

It comes as Australia launches a new cybersecurity agency to boost its defences against the threat posed by hackers.

The agency will be overhauling the country’s cybersecurity rules following high-profile attacks on major corporations.

Toby Murray from the University of Melbourne outlines what governments and business can do to strengthen their cybersecurity posture.
