Japan’s Prime Minister Fumio Kishida has declared victory after leading his ruling coalition to a strong majority in the national elections
The LDP picked up more seats than expected to maintain a single-party majority in the lower house of parliament.
LDP secured 259 seats, but even though it was more than polling suggested it was less than the number of seats it had going into the election.
Just three weeks ago there was a snap election and this result gives the 64 year old a mandate to rule Japan after he replaced former Prime Minister Suga.
