The first commercial flight in six years has left Yemen’s capital

The country’s foreign minister has confirmed that a flight departing Sana’a for Jordan has taken off.

The capital remains under rebel control but is under a ceasefire that’s expected to last two months.

Despite the UN’s best efforts to get flights back in the air they were initially delayed as authorities scrambled to agree on the type of travel documents that passengers could use.

The inaugural flight was originally planned for April the 24th but had to be scrapped.

Today’s flight is expected to carry passengers who are in desperate need of urgent medical treatment.
