The Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) is forming a new task force dedicated to cryptocurrency.
The Department of Justice has confirmed the move, with the new unit working alongside the previously-formed Crypto Enforcement Team.
The newly-appointed director says the unit will work to ensure technology surrounding digital assets grows and evolves.
It all forms part of America’s desire to combat abuse by criminals within the crypto space, focusing on the misuse of digital assets.
The team is built up of attorneys from across the D.O.J. including prosecutors with backgrounds in cryptocurrency, cybercrime and money laundering.
