The company will be deleting the face prints of all users amid security concerns

Facebook has announced that it will discontinue its face-recognition system and remove the face prints of more than 1 billion users.

It comes amid growing public concern surrounding the company worsened by governments abusing the technology.

Meta vice president says “this change will represent one of the largest shifts in facial recognition usage in the technology’s history”.

He says Meta weighed up the pros “against growing societal concerns, especially as regulators have yet to provide clear rules”.

The company did not specify how users can check that their image data was deleted.
