The High Court ruled in favour of Sheeran, saying the singer has not copied part of his hit, Shape of You from another artist.

Taking to social media, Sheeran says he hopes “the ruling means in the future baseless claims like this can be avoided”.

There’s been a number of high-profile copyright court battles in recent months, with Katy Perry winning an appeal after a rapper claimed she plagiarised the song “Dark Horse”.

Dua Lipa has also been sued twice over her hit “Levitating”, which was the biggest-selling single in the U-S in 2021.

In his post, Sheeran says “I’m not an entity, I’m not a corporation, I’m a human being. I’m a father, I’m a husband, I’m a son”… calling for an end to unnecessary litigation.
