Ecuador is reeling from a devastating landslide that killed 24 people in the nation’s capital

Twelve others are still missing, and nearly 50 are injured as rescue teams search homes and streets covered by mud following the worst deluge in nearly two decades.

Torrential rains in the capital were equivalent to 75 litres per square metre.

The rains caused a build-up of water in a gorge near two neighbourhoods.

The nation’s heavy rains have caused rivers to overflow and left hundreds of homes and roads without power.
