Does the Mariupol hospital attack boost Russia’s terror campaign?

Women crying, cradling their unborn babies – a Ukrainian maternity hospital has been ripped to shreds

A Russian airstrike has destroyed a maternity hospital, located in the southern port city of Mariupol.

This gobsmacking attack on vulnerable women about to give birth is triggering global horror and outrage.

Zelensky says kids and parents were trapped under the wreckage and called on Western leaders to impose a no-fly zone.

“People, children are under the wreckage. Atrocity! How much longer will the world be an accomplice ignoring terror? Close the sky right now! stop the killings!”

Police and soldiers rushed to the scene to evacuate victims, carrying out a heavily pregnant and bleeding woman on a stretcher.

A regional official says dozens of people have been injured, including staff and patients – fatalities still unknown.

Russia accused Ukraine of establishing combat positions at the bombed hospital and denies targeting civilians, saying it would hold a ceasefire to let civilians flee, but that of course, did not happen.

Eastern European expert told ticker Russia wants to spread terror by staging attacks like this.

Ukraine’s Foreign Minister says Russia continues to hold 400,000 people, hostage, in Mariupol, blocking humanitarian aid and evacuation routes.

This minister also says that Almost 3,000 newborn babies lack medicine and food, this number is expected to skyrocket following this bombing.

UK Foreign Secretary Liz Truss says western allies are assisting Ukraine’s humanitarian needs.

Meanwhile, the Mariupol city council says the strike has caused “colossal damage”, and published footage showing burned-out buildings, with thousands lacking drinking water, food, medicine.

The UN and the world health organization will investigate this bombing and its casualties.

UN spokesperson Stephane Duejorric says “None of these should ever, ever be a target” when it comes to attacks on healthcare.
