Depp tells court text messages to ex-wife based on Monty Python

Actor Johnny Depp told the court he is ‘ashamed’ of messages he sent to his ex-wife Amber Heard, saying they were in reference to Monty Python tweet

The messages in question are from 2013 in which Depp wrote to a friend “let’s burn her” and “let’s drown her before we burn her”, before adding the pair should “make sure she is dead”.

When asked about this exchange in court, the embattled actor says they are “directly from a Monty Python sketch about burning and drowning witches”.

He added this film was one he would watch as a child and “it’s just irreverent and abstract humour”.

In a Virginia court, Depp is suing Heard over a story she wrote where she is describing herself as a victim of domestic abuse, while Heard has filed a counterclaim for $100 million.

When asked how he felt when he first saw the op-ed, Depp says he was “hurt” and felt like he had no way to stand up for himself.
