‘Systemic failures and poor decision making’ – this is the language used to describe the police response during the Uvalde school massacre

A new report by a committee of the state’s House of Representatives details an overall careless approach by authorities at the scene.

Police waited for over an hour outside classrooms before moving in and engaging with the shooter.

The committee says this new report is the most complete telling of the tragic attack so far.

It also found the school did not adequately prepare for the risk of an armed intruder… and had a culture of leaving doors unlocked or left open.

376 responders were at the scene on the day of the attack, which resulted in 19 children and two adults losing their lives.

The report says of the approximately 142 rounds the attacker fired inside the building, over 100 of these were fired before any officer entered the school.
