Footballing hero Christian Eriksen will make an extraordinary return to play on the pitch he almost lost his life on

The Danish mid-fielder suffered a cardiac arrest on the field while playing in the Euro 2020 competition in Copenhagen. It was a moment that shocked the world when the 30-year-old collapsed mid-game.

The stadium was silent, and viewers at home were in shock, while millions prayed for his wellbeing. The medical team then performed life-saving CPR, with his teammates circling around for privacy.

Now, just 290 days after the horrifying moment, Eriksen will return to the field where it all happened.

He will play at Parken Stadium in Copenhagen against Serbia. He has high hopes that this will give fans a new and happier memory of him at the stadium.

Eriksen has been fitted with a type of pacemaker but says his heart is not an obstacle and he says he has his eyes set on big goals.

Emotional debut

While this will be Eriksen’s return to the emotional pitch where he suffered a cardiac arrest it’s not his first match back on the international stage.

He played the Netherlands in Amsterdam, where Denmark flexed their muscles, winning 4-2 in remarkable fashion.

Denmark has its eyes on the World Cup in Qatar later this year, after they dominated in their qualifying group.
