China’s space agency has released a video of its “Zhu-Rong rover” moving across the surface of Mars.

The videos and photos, captured by the camera installed on the Tianwen-1 spacecraft’s Zhu-Rong rover, show the lander deploying a parachute before touching down on the Mars surface and the rover driving away from its landing platform onto the land.

A wireless camera was placed on the ground by the robot that captured the footage.

The six-wheeled robot is investigating a region known as Utopia Planitia on the red planet.

“When we were designing, we wanted to obtain some visual states of the rover, which could be used as a basis for further improvement of the project,”

Rao Wei, deputy chief designer of the Tianwan-1 Probe, said.

China’s Space Agency says Zhu-rong has driven 236 metres in 42 Mars sols.

A sol is a Martian day which lasts slightly longer than an Earth day, at 24 hours and 39 minutes.
