Global temperatures are changing and so is the definition of a heatwave
In English counties including Surrey, the mercury now has to hit at least 28 degrees Celsius for three days in a row to be classed as a heatwave, up from 27 degrees.
The U.K. Met Office says the changing climate and increasing temperatures has now made the original thresholds “obsolete”.
Officials believe the data is clear and British days are getting warmer with the greatest rise throughout parts of central and eastern England.
The Met Office says the definitions have always been structured to adapt to a changing climate.
