Brexit: France to block British fishing boats from ports

France is threatening to block British boats from entering its waters as a trade dispute between the two nations escalates

The UK government has responded, saying any attempt to block fishing boats will be in breach of international law and trade agreements.

France was annoyed by a decision by Britain which saw dozens of fishing licenses denied to French boats last month arguing that it breaches the Brexit deal.

France says if there is no final post-Brexit deal set by November 2, the country will begin tightening boats and trucks.

The UK’s Brexit minister says the stance by France is “disappointing” and he is seeking “urgent clarification”.

Downing Street warns, if carried through, “the measures being threatened will be met with an appropriate and calibrated response”.
