Authorities in the US have taken down the biggest-ever crypto theft in history, seizing $3.6 billion in Bitcoin.
A husband and wife team have been arrested in Manhatten over the crime
The digital currency has been tied back to the 2016 hack of currency exchange Bitfinex
The pair is accused of conspiring to launder more than $119,000 bitcoin stolen through 2,000 unauthorised transactions.
America’s Justice Department says the financial seizure is a clear example of how cryptocurrency is “not a safe haven for criminals.”
The key suspects face charges of conspiring to commit money laundering and intentions to defraud the United States.
The case will be heard in Washington’s federal court in Washington, D.C.
