U.S. President Joe Biden and French President Emmanuel Macron are set to announce a ceasefire between Lebanon’s Hezbollah and Israel within the next 36 hours.
Sources indicate that significant progress has been made in the discussions regarding this ceasefire.
The French presidency confirmed ongoing collaboration with American partners towards this goal, expressing hopes that all parties will take the opportunity to achieve peace.
The White House has not provided immediate comments on the situation.
Reports earlier this week suggested that Biden and Macron would unveil a 60-day ceasefire within the next day.
White House officials characterised recent discussions on the Lebanon-Israel ceasefire as positive and on the right track.
John Kirby, a national security spokesperson, indicated optimism, stating, “We’re close,” and affirmed that discussions have been constructive.
He emphasized that while progress has been made, a finalized agreement is still pending.
