Alec Baldwin recaches settlement with family of ‘Rust’ victim, one year on from the tragic incident

Alec Baldwin has reached a settlement with the family of cinematographer Halyna Hutchins, who he fatally shot while shooting the film ‘Rust’.

Hutchins’ husband, Matthew agreed that his wife’s death was a “terrible accident” and isn’t interested in “attributing blame.”

As part of the deal, he will become the executive producer for the film.

Rust will recommence filming again in January, with Matthew saying he is determined to honour his late wife’s work.

Following the settlement, Baldwin’s lawyer took to Instagram saying “we are grateful to everyone who contributed to the resolution of this tragic and painful situation.”

“Throughout this difficult process, everyone has maintained the specific desire to do what is best for Halyna’s son,” the post added.

Other finer details of the settlement are yet to be disclosed, as they await court approval.

The final police report on the shooting is expected later this month. At this time, prosecutors will decide whether criminal charges are warranted.

District attorney Mary Carmack-Altwies said “if the facts and evidence warrant criminal charges”,  then “charges will be brought.”

No one is above the law,” a statement issued on behalf of Carmack-Altwies added.

The government offers generous rebates and tax breaks to international productions, making it an attractive proposition for filmmakers looking to maximise their budgets.

Despite the recent intake of Hollywood productions down under such as ‘The Fall Guy’ and ‘Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga’, Aussie independents are still finding the space to carve their own creative path.

American home prices are rising at faster pace now than in the last 20-years.

A recent analysis reveals a jaw dropping surge in the cost of American homes.

Since the start of 2020, U.S. home prices have surged 47% easily outstripping the gains seen in recent decades.

On top of that, home price growth so far this decade is on the verge of surpassing all the growth seen in the 2000s.

Many experts believe this decade’s housing market frenzy was ignited by a perfect storm — the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic triggering an unprecedented rush among buyers.

Tom Hutchens, the Executive Vice President of Production at Angel Oak Mortgage Solutions joins Veronica Dudo to discuss.
