Albanese ramps up pre-election campaign with multistate tour targeting key Labor seats ahead of May 17 federal election.
Anthony Albanese has initiated campaigning for the upcoming federal election, announcing a multistate tour across Queensland, Western Australia, and the Northern Territory.
The election is expected to occur by May 17, with Albanese focusing on retaining marginal Labor seats critical for maintaining a parliamentary majority.
He will begin his tour in the Northern Territory, where Labor holds the Lingiari seat by a narrow margin of 0.9 per cent, and the Solomon seat, which includes Darwin, by a safer 9.4 per cent.
Albanese plans to visit Sunshine Coast, Rockhampton, Cairns, and Mount Isa, concluding the tour in Kimberley and Perth, just four weeks after his last visit to the area.
The campaign will highlight Labor’s commitments to infrastructure, health, child care, and housing. Albanese is urging voters to support his government for another term to continue their progress.
He stated, “This election is a choice between building Australia’s future or taking Australia backwards.”
He emphasised the government’s commitment to addressing cost of living issues while enhancing Medicare and investing in vital services like infrastructure and aged care.
Labor aims to build on its successes from the 2022 post-Covid elections in Western Australia, where it gained four additional seats while the Coalition lost six.
