Africa’s public health body declares mpox emergency for second time in two years

A major warning from the World Health Organization, declaring a major emergency for “m-pox” a global public health emergency for the second time in two years.

Following an outbreak of the viral infection in the Democratic Republic of Congo, the inflection is now spreading to neighbouring countries.

Mpox can spread through close contact and causes flu-like symptoms, and it can be fatal in some cases.

The Director-General says governments must take the outbreak seriously.
