97-year-old women convicted of WWII crimes in Germany

The first woman in more than a decade has been convicted of Nazi World War II crimes in Germany.

The 97-year-old learned her fate Tuesday after more than a year at trial, which she at one point tried to evade.

The state court in Itzehoe, in northern Germany, handed Irmgard Furchner a two-year suspended sentence – in line with prosecutors’ demands.

She was sentenced under juvenile law, owing to the fact that she was only 18-years-old at the time of the crimes.

Trump claims Iran’s military largely neutralized; tensions rise with attacks threatening air travel and oil shipping.

President Trump says Iran’s military capability has been largely neutralised, including its navy and air force, as the conflict in the Middle East intensifies. Iranian attacks have threatened commercial air travel and oil shipping through the Strait of Hormuz, raising fears of wider economic fallout.
