YouTube has announced it will remove videos and ban accounts which spread vaccine misinformation of any kind on its platform
The video streaming site has already banned Covid-related falsehoods, but has ramped up its efforts to expel vaccine misinformation of any kind, moving further to take down all content which claims any approved vaccine is dangerous, causes chronic health problems or does not effectively reduce the spread of disease.
YouTube had previously demoted, or hidden, videos which spread misinformation about non-Covid vaccines or encouraged vaccine hesitancy.
Under the new guidelines, it will block videos and ban the accounts of anti-vax activists that produce misinformation about all commonly used vaccines, such as the flu shot administered to millions each year.
YouTube, which is owned by Google, has removed more than 1 million videos for spreading Covid falsehoods since the pandemic began.
