This year’s numbers for the sports rich list are in and the top spot has changed

The world’s highest-paid athletes of 2022 have been revealed and there’s a new star in the top spot.

US sports dominate the list, there are 36 NBA players and 25 from the National Football League.

37-year-old Lebron James replaced MMA fighter Connor McGregor and is the lone American in the top five.

James was estimated to make $126.9 million in the past twelve months, then it’s a list of four footballers with Messi just pipping Ronaldo with $130 million in combined earnings.

Steph Curry and Kevin Durant are just outside the top five, whilst two veterans, Roger Federer and Tiger Woods round out the top ten.

The list, put together by Sportico, based earnings from June 2021 to May 2022 and combines salary, prize money and also includes any personal endorsements including sponsorships.

The 100 top paid athletes playing in 10 different sports earned an enormous 4.5 billion in total, a five percent increase from last year.
