The World Bank had committed more than $5.3 billion for development projects in Afghanistan – but all that has been halted

The World Bank says they are deeply concerned about the situation and the impact on the country’s development prospects, especially for women.

The comes as the International Monetary Fund decided to block the Taliban from accessing financial resources.

The Biden administration has also frozen the assets of Afghanistan’s central bank that are held in the US.

“We have paused disbursements in our operations in Afghanistan and we are closely monitoring and assessing the situation in line with our internal policies and procedures,”

The EU has a similar stance who froze development funds for the nation.

The EU has pledged 200 million euros instead of 50 million for humanitarian assistance.
