Singapore is facing its worst COVID-19 flare-up in months.
More than 60 community cases have been recorded in the past week – with many linked to an outbreak at a hospital.
Restrictions are being tightened but the city-state isn’t rushing into a blunt lockdown.
Professor Dale Fisher is a senior infectious disease consultant at the National University Hospital in Singapore and the chair of the World Health Organization (WHO) Global Outbreak Alert and Response Network.
He joined ticker’s international correspondent, Jackson Williams live from Singapore to discuss more.
Fisher believes it’s nothing “that can’t be managed”
“Of course there is reason for concern,” he says
He says lockdown and circuit breakers are designed to build capacities, but its not good for long term strategies.
“We need to figure out how to live with it, break transmission chains and minimise the overall impact”
