Democrats take aim at Republicans over Capitol riots

Democrats are slamming Republicans for their opposition towards establishing a commission into the deadly January 6 Capitol riots.

Earlier this year, Republican leadership voiced their opposition to the idea, forgoing any hope of a bipartisan investigation panel.

However, some Democrats are seeing the positive to the pushback – using it as leverage in the lead-up to midterm elections.

A New York-based strategist says House majorities rise and fall in swing districts and “it is impossible for the American public to forget January 6”.

Jon Thune, the second Republican in the upper chamber hinted his party wants its midterm message to focus on “jobs and wages and the economy and NOT on the 2020 elections.”
