White House says the U.S. is ready to provide any and all needed assistance to its NATO Ally

As night falls in Turkey, a massive search and rescue operation is under way across much of the nation’s south.

The death toll from the massive 7.8 magnitude earthquake stands at 3,500 – but the World Health Organisation fears this number could reach as high as 20,000.

The first quake struck in the early hours of Monday while people were asleep, with a 7.5-magnitude tremor hitting later at around 1:30PM local time.

In northern Syria, the situation is just as dire.

More than 1,400 people are reported to have died in the country, with rescuers racing to save those trapped beneath the rubble.

As the world reacts, leaders from every corner of the globe are pledging to send aid.

The White House says the U.S. is ready to “provide any and all needed assistance to its NATO Ally, Turkey”.

The quake is one of the strongest to hit the region in more than 100 years. #trending #featured
