In the wake of the frightening Brooklyn subway attack, New York City Mayor Eric Adams is calling for greater social media oversight.

Speaking with the ABC, Adams says social organisations need to ‘step up’ and identify those users who are spreading hate and inciting violence online.

Accused Brooklyn subway attacker Frank James posted a number of remarks online that alluded to violent acts.

Adams believes artificial intelligence could be harnessed to help identify which content is appropriate and which content is not.

In his interview, the Mayor also expressed concerns for the drill music genre, which is known for “inflicting violence on rival gangs.”

Around 30 people were injured when James allegedly opened fire in a Brooklyn subway.

He faces life in prison if convicted.
