North Korea is conducting nuclear strike drills to show its rivals that the country would be ready if military conflict came to that. But will this be seen as more of an escalation than preparation by these same rivals in the region?

So North Korea wants to send a message to its rivals – the U.S. and South Korea that it’s ready for a nuclear strike by conducting drills simulating just that recently.

As part of the drills the isolated nation fired two cruise missiles carrying mock nuclear warheads towards the West Sea of the Korean peninsula.

Now when North Korea refers to its rivals it means quite pointedly the U.S. and South Korea, which has just recently completed annual joint military exercises in the region.

So how will the U.S. and its allies respond to the drills?
