Striving to become the most profitable airline
United Airlines has soared to become the best-performing U.S. airline stock this year, with shares rising over 80% since January.
The Chicago-based airline is expanding profits with investments in roomier seating and high-demand routes to places like Greenland and Mongolia.
By offering more seats at competitive prices, United is now taking on low-cost carriers while maintaining premium options for business travelers.
United holds the title for most international routes among U.S. airlines and is focused on growing its domestic share.
Patrick Quayle, a top executive, noted that United’s strategy is appealing to both budget and luxury travelers alike.
However, the airline still ranks third or fourth in domestic profits, according to chief commercial officer Andrew Nocella.
The airline has a lot of runway ahead as it strives to top the U.S. market.
