For those of us keen on a European adventure, United Airlines is relaunching direct services connecting US travellers with Greece

There’s true signs the travel sector is bouncing back post-COVID, with United Airlines restarting direct flights between the U.S and Greece.

From May, those keen on a European adventure will be able to travel with United to Athens.

Flights will depart from both international hubs in New York and Washington DC.

The daily to and from flights will be carried out by United’s world class Boeing 787 Dreamliner planes.

Will United operate these flights using SAF fuel?

While the new routes will be serviced by the popular United Airlines 787 Dreamliner, it remains to be seen if the airline will source sustainable fuel on the route.

In December, United operated the world’s very first flight that used 100% sustainable aviation fuel.

The carrier flew a plane with more than 100 passengers on board, travelling from Chicago to Washington, DC, using only renewable fuel.

SAF has the potential to deliver the performance of petroleum-based jet fuel but with a fraction of its carbon footprint, and according to the U.S. Department of Energy, the country’s vast feedstock resources are enough to meet the projected fuel demand of the entire U.S. aviation industry.
