Fear in central Paris after an American tourist was raped in a busy public toilet block

A 27-year-old female tourist was raped in Central Paris, nearby the busy River Seine.

French Police have arrested the 23-year old suspect, who is homeless, but have not released any further details.

The Paris Prosecutors Office says the attack was aggravated by alcohol. The woman entered the toilet at approximately 1:00am, while her boyfriend waited for her outside.

Her partner grew increasingly worried because she was taking a long time. He went to look for her when he heard her screaming and crying. He ran to her rescue when he found her being attacked by the perpetrator.

However, it’s currently the peak summer tourism period in Paris, and tourists are being warned to remain vigilant.

The toilet block is considered safe and is well maintained, located near the Notre Dame.
