The United States is sending two Patriot missile batteries to Poland as a “defensive deployment” to counter any potential threat to NATO allies

Patriots are air defence missile systems that are designed to counter and destroy incoming short-range ballistic missiles, advanced aircraft, and cruise missiles. The news coming as aggression by Russia in Ukraine intensifies.

In a statement, the US European Command says it will not way support any offensive operations.

It went on to say that every step is intended to deter aggression and reassure NATO allies.

The US was caught off guard earlier this week when Poland said it was prepared to provide fighter jets to Ukraine.
