Plans for 30 gigawatts of offshore energy by 2030

The Biden administration has announced a plan to develop large-scale wind farms along nearly the entire coastline of the U.S.

This marks the first long-term strategy from the government to produce electricity from offshore turbines.

The Interior Secretary says the U.S. will lease federal waters in the Gulf of Mexico, Gulf of Maine and off the coasts of the Mid-Atlantic states by 2025.

This comes months after the Biden administration approved the nation’s first commercial offshore wind farm off the coast of Massachusetts.

The move will help to reduce the nation’s reliance on fossil fuels and to meet the climate targets of cutting emissions by 50 per cent by 2030.
