U.S. Supreme Court leans towards blocking Texas abortion law

Conservative US justices are reconsidering their positions to let abortion providers pursue a bid to quash a recent law

It comes two months after letting a ban on abortion in Texas take effect.

During three hours of oral arguments, at least two of the justices who had allowed the law to be enforced were leaning towards permitting abortion providers to proceed with their legal challenge.

The Texas measure allows private citizens to sue anyone who performs or assists a woman in getting an abortion after cardiac activity is detected in the embryo.

Individual citizens can be awarded a minimum of $10,000 for bringing successful lawsuits under the law.

US President Joe Biden has called it a “bounty”.
