Sporadic pauses in fighting will become daily, though Israeli officials have repeatedly said that there would be no cease-fire until Hamas releases the hostages.

The White House says Israel has agreed to pause operations in northern Gaza for four hours a day beginning Thursday.

U.S. President Joe Biden says he has pushed for longer pauses to get hostages out.
