U.S. President Joe Biden is planning to slap sanctions on hundreds of Russians serving in the country’s Duma, lower legislative body

The move is expected to kick off a slew of new steps to punish Russia for its war in Ukraine.

President Biden is expected to unveil the new sanctions on members of the Duma while in Europe for a series of meetings this week.

The U.S. has already sanctioned some members of the body, but this week’s announcement will expand the list.

“Russia’s never going to take Ukraine away from Ukrainian people,” says Mr Sullivan.

National Security Adviser Jake Sullivan says the sanctions will be announced with allies.

“Whether Russia takes a city, takes a town or takes more territory, they will never be able to achieve the purpose that they set out which was to subjugate the country,

“The Ukrainian people have made it very clear that they will not be subjugated no matter what it takes.”
