Trump’s operation opens Strait of Hormuz amid Iranian tensions, vessels hit and UAE oil port ablaze

Tensions in the Strait of Hormuz have surged following a series of escalating actions involving the United States, Iran, and regional allies, raising fresh concerns over global energy security and maritime stability in one of the world’s most critical shipping lanes.

U.S. President Donald Trump has launched a new operation aimed at reopening the Strait of Hormuz to commercial shipping, a vital passage for global oil exports.

The move comes amid heightened regional instability and appears designed to assert freedom of navigation through the strategic waterway.

However, the decision has rapidly intensified geopolitical friction, with early indications suggesting the situation may have escalated beyond initial expectations.

Reports from the region indicate that several commercial vessels were struck in separate incidents, while a fire broke out at an oil installation in the United Arab Emirates following an alleged Iranian drone attack.

The UAE has confirmed damage to a port facility, adding to concerns over the security of critical energy infrastructure in the Gulf.

In response to the US-led initiative, Iran has pushed back strongly. Iranian authorities denied claims that US merchant vessels successfully passed through the Strait, directly contradicting statements from the US military.

Tehran also released a map asserting expanded control over maritime zones beyond the Strait of Hormuz, signalling a firmer stance on its regional influence.

As competing narratives emerge, the Strait of Hormuz remains at the centre of a volatile standoff.

With shipping routes under threat and energy infrastructure reportedly targeted, global markets are watching closely for signs of further escalation that could disrupt oil flows and heighten international tensions.
