Talks advance

Witkoff noted the discussions in Moscow generated new ideas and hoped for a fresh round of U.S.-mediated talks soon.

Zelenskiy expressed readiness for trilateral discussions, highlighting the need for air defence and energy support ahead of winter months.

Previous U.S.-mediated negotiations have had limited success, but recent indications from Trump suggest a new proposal may emerge.

Kremlin aide Yuri Ushakov called the Moscow meeting “highly useful,” indicating a potential for tangible outcomes.

Zelenskiy views U.S. involvement as crucial for achieving peace, especially before the upcoming U.S. presidential election cycle begins in 2028.

Several hours of talks in Kyiv involved U.S. envoys, as well as meetings with British, French, and German security advisers.

Discussions covered the possibility of security guarantees and a post-war prosperity plan for Ukraine.

Optimism growing

In Kyiv, residents expressed cautious optimism about the envoys’ visit, hoping for a swift resolution to the conflict.

Military veteran Stepan Yermak articulated a desire for peace, underscoring the high personal cost of the ongoing war.

Key issues remain unresolved, particularly regarding the contested Donbas region, which both sides have different claims over.

Despite intermittent pauses in strikes between the capitals, conflict continues to escalate along the front lines, underscoring ongoing tensions.

Ukraine reported successful strikes on Russian assets, aiming to increase the operational cost of the ongoing hostilities.
