North Korea has been testing ballistic missiles in the region while joint military drills take place between the U.S. and South Korea

The U.S. has delivered what is perhaps its most direct warning to North Korea to date.

It follows the nuclear-armed rouge nation test-firing two strategic cruise missiles from a submarine.

“Strategic” is typically used to describe weapons that have a nuclear capability.

It’s believed this was in response to U.S.-South Korea military drills that are due to begin.

South Korea’s government now says it is on high alert as Kim Jong Un orders his troops to be ready ahead of the military exercises.

North Korea’s official news service says the missiles travelled about 1,500 kilometres before hitting a target at sea.

In Washington, the Pentagon’s press secretary warns North Korea if it were to fire a nuclear weapon, this would be the end of the country’s regime.
