U.K. Prime Minister Boris Johnson says transgender women should not compete in female sports

United Kingdom Prime Minister Boris Johnson has been slammed for his controversial comments about transgender females in sports.

“I don’t think that biological males should be competing in female sporting events. “

The controversial comments come after transgender cyclist Emily Bridges was disqualified from competing in the United Kingdom’s national championships.

Bridges claims she was ‘harassed and demonised’ after the governing body ruled she was ineligible to compete.

Bridges says she has been undertaking hormone therapy for the past year, which should have legitimised her to compete.

Officials barred her from competing after several other female competitors threatened to boycott the event if Bridges competed.

Conversion Therapy backflip

The U.K is also under pressure following its constant backflips on conversion therapy legislation.

The Government decided not to include transgender people in the ban on so-called conversion therapy.

The legislation will mean therapy to attempt to change people’s sexuality will be outlawed, but those practices carried out to try to change people’s gender identity will not.

The dispute over conversion therapy for transgender people has prompted global concern.
