Nurses across the UK have walked off the job as part of cost-of-living strikes taking place across the United Kingdom.
Staff will continue to provide “life-preserving” and some urgent care but routine surgery and other planned treatment won’t be going ahead.
Up to 100,000 members of the Royal College of Nursing in England, Wales and Northern Ireland are stopping work.
Union leaders and health workers also said nurses were being overworked due to staff shortages, as the state-run National Health Service battled a backlog in appointments made worse by cancellations during the pandemic.
