Two strong earthquakes have hit the coast of Hawaii in the North Pacific Ocean

The powerful earthquakes struck off the coast of the Big Island in Hawaii on Sunday local time

The U.S. Geological Survey says the first quake had a magnitude of 6.1 and a 6.2 magnitude earthquake struck about 20 minutes later in the same area.

The earthquakes left residents rattled, with items seen flying off the shelves at stores and gas stations.

Authorities say there was no tsunami threat and no injuries were immediately reported.
