Two people have been killed and one injured after a shooting in Thailand

Officials say a man opened fire at a military facility in Bangkok before the alleged shooter was detained.

A Thai soldier killed two people and wounded one other, police and army officials said.

According to reports from New Straits Times, Sergeant Major Yongyuth Mungkornkim, a clerk at the Royal Thai Army War College, shot three other soldiers.

In the aftermath of the shooting, police officers and soldiers guarded the gates of the facility, part of a large complex of military buildings in the north of the capital.

The cause of the attack remains unknown and authorities are offering their condolences to the families of the victims.

There’s high rates of gun ownership across Thailand but mass shootings are extremely rare.
