Former President Donald Trump’s secrets revealed in tell-all book, with claims he planned to blockade himself in the White House

There are new reports Donald Trump had plans to remain in the White House well after his 2020 election loss. A new book reveals the former president intended to prevent incoming President Joe Biden from taking over office.

Maggie Haberman’s “Confidence Man: The Making of Donald Trump and the Breaking of America” is set to hit shelves on October 4. Its release comes as investigators continue their probe into Trump’s refusal to accept the election result.

The tell-all book draws on stories from White House aides. They say Trump refused to make way for Biden, even after the election had been called.

“I’m just not going to leave, We’re never leaving, How can you leave when you won an election?” Trump told one aide.

This is the first time Trump’s desire to remain in the White House has been reported. It adds damming details to the post-election period in which the controversial figure claimed the election was stolen off him. It was this stance which inevitably led to the January 6 Capitol riot.

The House select committee investigating January 6 will hold further hearings in the coming months. The committee will then release a final report into Trump’s role in the attack.

Haberman is a CNN political analyst and New York Times journalist, covering Trump since his 2016 presidential campaign.

Haberman claims Trump was initially accepting of Biden’s win, but says his mood abruptly changed. He informed his aides he had no intention of departing the White House in late January and would not let Biden move in.

In excerpts provided to CNN, the book also reveals new details about those around Trump at the time. It alleges even Trump’s son-in-law, Jared Kushner, was reluctant to confront the outgoing leader on the loss.

Oil prices surge as U.S.-Iran tensions escalate

Published

Crude oil prices jumped over 3% on Wednesday as U.S.-Iran nuclear talks showed signs of faltering, pushing WTI futures above $65 per barrel. Axios reported disagreements over the venue and scope of Friday’s talks, while President Trump warned Iran’s supreme leader to “be very worried,” stoking fears of military escalation.

Tensions in the Persian Gulf added to the volatility. A U.S. F-35C shot down an Iranian drone near the USS Abraham Lincoln, and Iranian vessels threatened a U.S.-flagged tanker in the Strait of Hormuz. The USS McFaul escorted the tanker to safety, highlighting the region’s fragile oil supply routes.

Despite the clashes, nuclear talks will go ahead on Friday in Oman, but uncertainty continues to drive oil market volatility, with traders closely watching both diplomatic and military developments.

Washington Post layoffs: Hundreds of journalists cut as Bezos faces criticism

Published

The Washington Post has laid off hundreds of employees, marking what former executive editor Martin Baron calls “one of the darkest days” in the paper’s history. Approximately one-third of the newsroom staff were affected, as the company undertakes a so-called “strategic reset” to compete in a crowded media landscape.

The cuts hit key areas, including the sports desk, local coverage, international reporting, the books desk, and the flagship daily news podcast. Editor-in-Chief Matt Murray said the changes aim to prioritise national security, politics, science, health, technology, climate, and business coverage while positioning the Post for the future.

Critics have called out owner Jeff Bezos for his silence during the layoffs and alleged efforts to influence the paper’s political stance. Former editor Baron warned that the newspaper’s ambitions would be sharply diminished and its credibility could suffer.
