A controlled explosion has taken place and a man was arrested outside Buckingham Palace.

This sparked a “total lockdown” of Buckingham Palace.

The man was detained by police after approaching the gates of the palace.

The man was arrested on suspicion of possession of an offensive weapon and suspicious bag.

There are no reports of shots fired or injuries to officers or the public.

The King and the Queen Consort were not at Buckingham Palace at the time of the arrest.

Chief Superintendent Joseph McDonald says: “Officers remain at the scene and further enquiries are ongoing.”

It’s understood the lockdown has since been lifted as investigations continue.
