Recent flooding event leaves almost a dozen dead in India

A recent spate of floods and mudslides in India’s northeast has left 11 people dead and thousands displaced.

Several railway stations in the remote area have been closed, further isolating the region.

Nearly 200,000 people in the district have been cut off from the rest of the state, with roads and bridges either blocked by landslides or washed away.

Weather authorities say very heavy to extremely heavy rain will continue throughout the region for the next four days.

While landslides and floods are common in the north of India, scientists believe they are becoming more frequent in the wake of global warming.
