Threads is sinking while X hits record users

In a recent update, entrepreneur Elon Musk proudly announced that his rebranded social media platform, X, has achieved a record-breaking number of monthly users.

According to Musk, X now boasts a staggering 541,562,214 monthly users as of July, an impressive feat considering the removal of numerous bots that plagued the platform. This accomplishment comes after Musk acquired the app, formerly known as Twitter, for a substantial $44 billion last year.

In contrast, rival Mark Zuckerberg’s Threads, touted as a potential “Twitter-killer” app, has faced significant challenges. Despite attracting over 100 million users in the initial week after its launch, interest in Threads plummeted due to a lack of engaging features. Meta, Zuckerberg’s company, is now racing to add more retention-driving hooks and features to retain its user base and recover from the 11% dip in traffic.

Musk’s revamp of the social media platform involved scrapping the previous management’s content moderation guidelines and restoring accounts, including former President Donald Trump’s, which had been subject to restrictions. Additionally, Musk appointed Linda Yaccarino as CEO to win back advertisers who were deterred by the platform’s past management.

While Musk’s success with X is evident, Zuckerberg faces an uphill battle in maintaining the interest of his users. With both tech titans vying for dominance in the social media landscape, the competition between X and Threads promises to be a captivating spectacle in the months to come.
