Tesla forced to change range estimates

Tesla has recently updated their driving-range estimates for their lineup of electric vehicles.

This decision was made in response to a new U.S. government regulation aimed at ensuring that automakers provide accurate real-world performance data, according to a report from Reuters.

Tesla had received complaints in the past regarding their range estimates, with some industry experts alleging that the company had overstated the driving-range capabilities of their cars.

A Reuters investigation from last year revealed that Tesla had manipulated the algorithm controlling in-dash range estimates to provide overly optimistic projections about how far their cars could go before needing to recharge.

The report also uncovered a secret team created by the company in 2022 to suppress thousands of driving-range complaints from owners and cancel related service appointments.

In October, Tesla disclosed in a regulatory filing that federal investigators had subpoenaed the company for information related to their vehicles’ driving range.
